Man’s Best Friends in Germany!

Man’s Best Friends in Germany!

Germany is well-known for having a lot of strict rules! They follow the people’s everyday lives, and even simple decisions, such as owning a pet dog, are no exception! In fact, you will be blown out by how strict the laws for keeping a pet dog in Germany is after reading today’s article! So, without further ado, let’s get this started!

1. It’s all about the money!

Owning a pet dog is no joke, you must prepare yourself not only financially, but also mentally so you won’t drop down after hearing these first few numbers! Aside from the cost of the dog itself, which ranges from 1000 Euros to 5000 Euros, you must register your new pup at the finance amt, because you will be paying his taxes of 120 Euros per year! Other compulsory costs include a liability insurance, a health insurance for the pup, tickets for their public transport travels, as well as certain obligatory vaccinations and procedures performed by vets! If future owners are still standing strong after hearing about these first few numbers, then they can get themselves ready for the next rules!

2. It’s the leash you could do!

This is not something you can simply ignore! Be sure to keep leashes on at all times, especially if someone approaches you and your pup! Violating this rule can result in a fine as high as 5000 Euros! In order to have your pup walk around without a leash, the pup has to own a dog license, which means he has gone through specific dog-trainings and is allowed to be trusted off-leash. This training can be done at a dog-training school, with the fees lying somewhere about 100 Euros!

3. Cages are big No-No!

It’s pretty common in the US and Vietnam for some dog owners to put their pets in cages while the owner is out of the house, to prevent them from getting into stuff that could harm them or destroying the entire house.

In Germany however, it is considered animal abuse and is illegal to keep a dog caged up for more than 5 hours at a time and illegal to keep a dog chained up indoors for any amount of time or reason. Leaving a dog on a balcony is also no alternative to leaving them caged up – German law views this as equal to caging the animal.

Germans take this law VERY seriously. Breaking it could land you a fine of up to €25,000. And no, that was not a typo.

4. Dog-Friendly Country

I think we should finish the list with a nice rule for once! Despite the many strict and seemingly endless laws dog-owners must abide when owning a pup, the experience is nonetheless super enjoyable when you live in such a dog-friendly country aka Germany. From buses to trains to stores and parks, dogs are always welcomed! It’s safe to say that Germany is not just dog-friendly – they basically treat dogs as kings! And, what can I say? They totally should!
